Dr.Kevin Pyle has been operating, up until recently, under the company name of The Kairos Institute. The Kairos Institute has been successfully operating in Perth from 2010 to 2015.
With the introduction of new technology in the field of mental wellness the theoretical direction of the Kairos Institute no longer reflected these advances.
Consequently, Dr. Pyle as the Clinical Director of The Kairos Institute, decided that the name of the agency should communicate to the public this new direction. It was this decision that brought rise to IPS which was established in March of 2015.
With the advancement of technology in the field of Psychology it is an exciting time to be providing a variety of therapuetic services to the people of Perth.
IPS will continue to provide the exceptional services that our clients have come to expect over the past 10 years and although the name has changed the underlying concept of realising psychological growth for the over a thousand people that IPS has served to this point still remains.
How long are the sessions? - Each session (excluding assessment sessions) runs for approximately 50 mins but is scheduled for 60 mins. This allows your therapist 10 mins to write their clinical notes between appointments.
What should I expect in the sessions? - We respect the fact that making that first step to see a Clinical Psychologist is a difficult and sometimes embarrassing decision. Each session will provide you with a non judgemental, highly trained professional whose mission it is to advance you towards your therapeutic goals. The initial session will gather information about your needs and circumstances with the goal to understanding your presenting concerns. At the end of the initial session a treatment plan will be identified that is tailed to your specific needs and in discussion with you how your therapy will be a collaboration between you and your therapist.
How long do I need to attend for and how often? - During the initial session the treatment plan will set out the frequency of your visits to meet your therapeutic goals. Most often the recommendation is for 3 sessions to take place once a week for 3 weeks. At the conclusion of these sessions a review is undertaken regarding therapeutic progress and further recommendations are discussed. Most individuals are seen for a minimum of 6 sessions. Under Medicare it is at this point (6 sessions) that a report is provided to your referring GP. The report updates your GP as to presenting concerns and progress towards treatment goals. If therapy is needed to be continued after the initial 6 sessions, then you will need to have an appointment with your GP to review the psychological report and if deemed appropriate by yourself and the GP a further 4 sessions can be approved. Medicare provides a total of 10 sessions per calendar year.
